At the age of 27, following some months of debilitating joint pain, a genetic test revealed I was HLA-B27 positive.
The result meant I had a greater-than-average risk of developing certain autoimmune disorders. The three most likely were Arthritis, Crohn’s and Uveitis.
I developed all three.
For more than 15 years after the diagnosis, I struggled with my health but kept a positive attitude.
I moved from my hometown in Italy to London where I became a journalist and started a family.
I was passionate about what I was doing, but being a fighter requires a lot of work and there came a time when I found myself completely exhausted.
It was then I realized I had to change my life radically.
I experimented with natural therapies and tweaked my diet several times, while also improving my lifestyle.
After a few months I noticed that pain and inflammation were slowly easing.
Gradually I was able to wean myself off some medications but I was still in considerable pain.
Next move was to enroll in the Naturopathic Nutrition course at the College of Naturopathic Medicine in London.
During the three years course, I studied the traditions of Oriental medicine and Western research-based nutrition, together with biology, anatomy, physiology, pathology and clinical diagnostic.
By the time I graduated I was completely pain-free, symptoms-free and medications-free.
I'm not cured, my genetic condition is still there but I keep it under control. When I have a rare flare up I am able to send my symptoms in remission with natural remedies.
My story may sound like an exception but it is not. The human body has a remarkable ability to heal and the more you learn about how your body works, the better prepared you are to make the choices necessary to enhance the quality of your life.
As a therapist, my mission is to show you what a substantial difference the right nutrition and lifestyle can make and to help you to reach and maintain your health goals.
